Tripp spots where markets are headed before most investors are paying attention, and then partners with the best founders to take them on. A dozen of the companies he’s backed have grown from early stage to billion-dollar businesses.

Tripp invests across B2B and consumer, and is drawn to messy, complex markets where technology can create dramatic change. He’s obsessed with venture history and how past technology cycles have played out, and uses it to get ahead of what’s coming next.

At Uncork, he backed GPTZero (acquired by Superhuman) before most people understood how quickly AI would blur the line between what's real and what's not. He leads Uncork's investment in Soma Energy, which is rethinking how data centers consume energy in the age of AI. He also backs Knit Health, which is training a world model on how clinical care is actually delivered to 130 million patients.

For all of them, Tripp's approach is the same. He stays close and helps founders think through the big decisions that can't wait for the board meeting. His goal is to be a real partner in the hard, unpredictable chaos of building from zero to one.

Before Uncork, Tripp was a General Partner at August Capital for more than a decade. He earned his BA in Psychology from Princeton and has wanted to be a VC since he was eight (one of the many quirks of growing up in the Bay Area).

Outside of venture, Tripp is happiest outdoors, often on the trails of Marin with his kids, dog, or mountain bike. A former ski coach at Squaw Valley, he still makes time for the slopes, and at home he doubles as short-order cook, making hot breakfasts every morning for his wife and three children.
